Juan Carlos Velez, M.D.
Dr. Juan Carlos Q. Velez is a nephrologist at Ochsner Health with clinical and research expertise in hepatorenal acute kidney injury, glomerular diseases, and hyponatremia.
He earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and completed his residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he served as chief medical resident. He then completed a nephrology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Velez previously served on faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina and joined Ochsner in 2016 to help expand its academic and research programs. He is board certified in nephrology, certified in kidney ultrasonography, and is a recognized hypertension specialist. He is also active in national nephrology education and mentoring initiatives.
